SEOUL, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Samsung Electronics, South Korea's tech giant, posted its record quarterly earnings in the third quarter, a regulatory filing showed Wednesday.

Operating profit was 17.6 trillion won (15.4 billion U.S. dollars) in the July-September quarter, up 20.9 percent from a year earlier.

It surpassed the previous record high of 15.6 trillion won (13.7 billion U.S. dollars) tallied in the first quarter of this year.

Revenue rose 5.5 percent over the year to 62.1 trillion won (54.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the third quarter. It was lower than the record high of 66 trillion won (57.9 billion U.S. dollars) logged in the fourth quarter of last year.
