LUSAKA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- A Zambian government ministry on Thursday denied being behind an obscene video which has gone viral on social media.

According to some reports, the video emanated from the Ministry of National Development Planning. The ministry said in a statement that the individuals reportedly in the video do not and have never worked for the ministry, adding that the ministry upholds high moral values in conformity with the code of ethics for public workers. The nature of the obscene content is unclear.

"We note with deep contempt for the mischaracterization that the false reports have portrayed," the statement said.

The ministry said it will report the matter to law enforcement agencies given the offense under the country's laws to distribute obscene materials.
