THE HAGUE, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Main suspect Gokmen Tanis has confessed to be the perpetrator of Monday's Utrecht tram shooting, the Dutch public prosecutor announced on Friday.

The 37-year-old suspect has declared that he acted alone. The charges against him are multiple murder or manslaughter with a terrorist objective, an attempt to do the foregoing and threat with a terrorist objective.

During the shooting at the 24 Oktoberplein in Utrecht on Monday, three people were killed and three others severely injured. The police arrested Gokmen Tanis that same day.

Another 40-year-old suspect, arrested on Tuesday, was released. No proof was found of any involvement or assistance and therefore he is no longer a suspect. Two other suspects, a 23-year-old man and a 27-year-old man arrested on Monday, were released on Tuesday. Those two men are also no longer suspects in the case.
